1024architecture tests a church mapping
As we move forward with development of the Mad Mapper our deadlines are neatly tied to the deadlines of projects created by 1024 architecture. The current project is fairly straight forward but no less dazzling then what this team is known for.

I have seen this work, and it is very inspiring. I have even started mapping after I was introduced to their work. I’m studying digital arts in Mexico, and I have a question how do you guys do to bend it like that? Do you take a photo and manipulate it after effects? How do you know from what height to take the picture? Does it has to be the same as the projector height? Heh, heh. I have lots of questions about this stuff.

In this case, 1024 is using a 3D model and bending, blowing it up in real time. You can tell that this is the procedure they are using because of the imperfection of the bending revealing rough polygons as opposed to finely rendered images. In the instance of this project, 1024 was on site some days prior to the event to map out the building and then take the map back to their studio and work on the material. When they returned to the site, it is likely that they might have to use the Mad Mapper to adjust the map a little match the projection to the building precisely.

In instances where one uses a photo, yes. You need to get a photo that will give you approximately the same angle as the projector will be situated. This is not always 100% reliable, and when the Mad Mapper is released it will be very helpful for adjusting any inaccuracies on the spot. Generally though, for the best experiences, it is highly desirable to have the projector in place the night prior to the event so the effect of something appearing on a large structure is not hindered by doing adjustments, thus detracting from the dramatic effect.

Please note, that for projections at this scale, you need a very powerful projector. 20k lumens, minimum.

thanks allot everything is more clear now!, I wished more people in Latin America did this stuff and give workshops like you guys do, but I guess for now having this blog is pretty awesome!
