I can practically copy and paste what I write every year when the deadline for the Mapping Festival is extended. So for those of you who said to yourself “I don’t know, should I really do this?” I say “DO IT!” Why? Because I think that submitting your work puts you through a process of evaluating what you do, gives it a framework and a context. It can be a motivator as well. Remember that demo reel you always think of getting done? This can definitely be the fire that puts a deadline on that project, or any other side project you have been plugging away at in the whee hours of the night or early morning.

Some people may think that the festival has drifted from it’s roots as a festival for VJing. This could not be further from the truth. While it has broadened its focus in terms of including other areas of art that happen to include projection and lighting, the corner stone of the festival has always been, and for the foreseeable future will be, the club nights. In the past two years it has actually been the case where I was approached by my colleagues who work for the festival, asking me for referrals for VJ crews because there simply were not enough applications. I don’t believe this is a result of some kind of exhaustion for the medium because I always have quite a few artists that I refer to.

I look forward to not hearing that request again.

EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR MAPPING 2013 CALL FOR ENTRIES: SEPTEMBER 30th, 2012!

Mapping Festival 2013 call for entries is already running out from August 15th and is expecting your best projects. For latecomers, like every year, it’s almost become a tradition, we extend the call for entries until September 30th at midnight (GTM Geneva). Warning: not one more day!

Then, from October 1st, you will be able to send your Vjing and Set AV projects, until October 31st, 2012 with the same procedure.

How to submit your project?

Very simple, you just have to submit a COMPLETE form and register online at: www.mappingfestival.com PLEASE NOTE: This year, The Mapping Festival Call for entries is in two periods according to the different categories!

The Mapping Festival Call for entries starts August 15th through SEPTEMBER 30th, 2012 until midnight (Geneva GTM) included, for the following categories:

- Audiovisual performances
- Installations / Exhibition
- Workshops / Conferences / Software demonstrations

And from OCTOBER 1st through 31st, 2012 to:

- Clubbing: VJing / scenography / AV Set
- Video mapping

And save the dates for the next Mapping Festival: May 2nd to 12th, 2013!
