This tutorial will teach you how to send the Modul8 output to MadMapper.

In this way you can use the Modul8 video compositing tools (a la After Effects, but in realtime),
and use MadMapper as a placement tool for your mapping projects.

Note that you will need Modul8 version 2.6.2 or higher.

STEP #1:
Launch Modul8.
Load a video in your media bin and apply it to a layer.
For this tutorial we’ll use just one layer, but all the functions of Modul8,
including all the layers, will work with MadMappper.

STEP #2:
Send Modul8 output to MadMapper.
For this, simply go to the /output/syphon menu , or hit COMMAND-Y

Note that your output has now disappeared. This is ok, as it will be sent to MadMapper:

By default, the Syphon output size of your Modul8 composition is set to 640*480.
Whenever you would need to modify this size,
go to the preferences panel of Modul8, in Misc, change the Syphon output size:

STEP #3:
Hide Modul8 and launch MadMapper.
Modul8 output will automatically appear in the input list of MadMapper,
under the Syphon section. Double click it and it will be selected and show up in the input view of MadMapper.

STEP #4:
Now you’re ready to crop parts of your M8 composite and place them in space.
Go to the Surface tab (second icon on top) and create a quad.

STEP #5:
Adjust your geometry.
You can now select which portion of the M8 composite you want to display on your quad
by modifying the blue selection rectangle on the input view.
You can also duplicate the Quad and flip it, adjust its opacity….

Once your video-mapping setup is finished, you can safely minimize MadMapper, or simply press the little arrow at the top. This will gain some speed on your system, as MadMapper won’t have to draw its preview.
Now you can switch back to Modul8, add layers and effects. MadMapper output will automatically reflect the changes you do in Modul8.
